Athlete of the year

On Thursday, the 28th of February, Stephen El Sharaawy was nominated athlete of the year by the Lombard sports journalists group, recognition for the excellent work done by the young forward through the first half of the current season.

Unfortunately the Pharaoh was unable to pick up the prize in person, and Milan’s iconic CEO Adriano Galliani received the award in his stead. Let’s hear what Galliani had to say about Milan’s most valuable player. Lazio clash revisited

Milan’s first game in March saw them host Lazio at the San Siro. The tie was crucial for both teams in their bid to claim third spot in the league, and a place in next seasons Champions League qualifiers.

Five key moments vs Lazio

Now it’s time to turn to the five key moments from Saturday’s clash:
In the fourth minute Boateng crosses in from the right; El Sharaawy latches onto the ball, and rounds Marchetti who takes him down, the ball ends up with Pazzini who shoots but Biava manages to prevent the goal with his heel!

In the 17th minute Milan counter attack; De Sciglio serves El Sharaawy, the young Pharaoh gets past his man but when he tries to shoot he’s fouled inside the box. The referee opts for a free-kick and sends Candreva off.

Five minutes before half time Milan are on the attack again, this time with Abate. His right footed shot tests Marchetti, and from the rebound El Sharaawy gets the ball to Pazzini who doesn’t miss. Milan in the lead, and Pazzini scores his hundredth career league goal. Just one minute before the end of the first half Milan double their lead, this time it’s Kevin Prince Boateng who latches onto the ball after a Marchetti parry, and finds the back of the net. 2-nil.

On the hour mark Lazio make a foolish defensive mistake, which leads to Milan’s third goal. Pazzini gathers the ball and shoots from far out. Three nil, Milan take third spot in the league.
