21-02-2013 - Lyon 1-1 Tottenham (Europa League)
17' 1-0 M. Gonalons // 90' 1-1 M. Dembélé
Tottenham Hotspur will defend a 2-1 aggregate lead as they take on Lyon in the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 clash, away from home at the Stade de Gerland on Thursday.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andre Villas Boas, Tottenham Hotspur
"I think we face a tough, tough team, and what I can deduct from those words is that Lyon would be absolutely up for the challenge tomorrow and it's going to be extremely difficult for us."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Jan Vertonghen, Tottenham Hotspur

"Yeah, I think they have to…. we have won a lot. It will be a tactical game as well, you know, they won't go out and try to score just in the first minute. Let's see what happens, and we are going to the game, so that can be a tactical game as well."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Andre Villas Boas, Tottenham Hotspur
"We are competent away from home so we will try to cancel their goals, obviously they all have the motivation because they are down from the first leg at the moment. You know they will try to rush to score, obviously, and they have the advantage of playing at home. We have the confidence from our results this season, which have been magnificent. Hopefully we will try to cancel their goals and put us in a good position."

Lyon wary of Bale threat

French Ligue 1 side Lyon take on English Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in the second leg of the UEFA Europa League round of 32 clash at the Stade de Gerland in France on Thursday night (February 21).

SOUNDBITE: (French) Remy Garde, Lyon manager:

"Would our opponents score a goal? That would complicate things enormously, so we will have to be strong, opportunists and realists. That sums up a lot of the qualities we will have to have tomorrow."

SOUNDBITE: (French) Remy Garde, Lyon manager:
"They (Tottenham) only failed to score goals twice playing abroad (in the Europa League), (sic they scored in two of their three Europa League away games and drew 0-0 at Lazio) so the match tomorrow will be very complicated. Well, the return match is at home, having scored one goal there (in London), is also a good thing. I don't think there is any favourite. A fifty-fifty chance is quite representative of what may happen tomorrow."

SOUNDBITE: (French) Remy Vercoutre, Lyon goalkeeper:
"Gareth Bale is a frightening player, maybe in the first leg we didn't know it enough. We have spoken about it (his free kicks), that's something he works on enormously during training, one can see it and feel it. The atmosphere around him when he has the ball gets very tense, one feels something may happen. And unfortunately last time, something did indeed happen."
